Keep value in use for as long as possible.

Natural does not automatically mean better. Recycled does not automatically mean circular. And recyclable does not mean something has to become waste.

For us, better design means asking more questions.

  1. Can the product stay in use longer?
  2. Can its function change?
  3. Can a component be replaced instead of the whole product?
  4. Can it move to another space?
  5. Can it work with furniture that does not exist yet?
  6. Can we use it again before we recycle it?

That way of thinking has been part of Acustio from the beginning.

What follows is not a list of commitments. It is the life of a single acoustic panel: how it is made, how it is checked, what happens when the desk under it is replaced, what happens when the room around it becomes something else, and what happens when nobody needs it in that building any more. Every claim on this page is attached to the moment in that life where it actually applies.

The Acustio Way.

Different applications demand different things from a material. A desk screen, a ceiling solution and a wall panel may have different requirements for appearance, performance, fire classification and environmental characteristics. That is why we work with several felt groups, each selected for a specific combination of properties.

The Acustio Way.

Packaging should have another life too. It is the part of the product that gets thrown away first, which is exactly why it is worth designing.

  1. FSC-certified cardboard boxes.
  2. Paper stretch replacing conventional plastic stretch in standard panel packing.
  3. Paper bags for smaller mounting components.
  4. Return and reuse of selected cardboard boxes with regular partners.

The Acustio Way.

Acustio does not manufacture desks. From the beginning, many of our desk panels were drawn around a consistent panel-side mounting hole pattern. That means a different desk system can often be accommodated by replacing the mounting adapter instead of replacing the complete acoustic panel. We have built dozens of mounting adapters over the years, many of them based on that common panel-side interface.

Selected Acustio products currently share the same leg and base mounting geometry: the Jasper Free Standing Room Divider, the Jasper Free Standing Whiteboard and Heaven Booth. The mounting sockets, their spacing and the connection logic are compatible, so a compatible base can be exchanged or reused between them. A Jasper Free Standing Room Divider can move from fixed feet to castor bases, or back, without replacing the acoustic panel. A base that is no longer needed in one compatible product may still be useful in another.

Workplaces change. Teams grow, desks move, and a meeting area appears where individual workstations used to be. Heaven Booth was designed for that change: five panel heights, one common connector type, a flexible panel connection that supports several angles, different bases, and the option to run on castors. The same panels can be taken apart and set up again in a different shape, repeatedly.

Acustio Second Life is what happens at the end of an installation rather than the end of a product. Returned products and components are assessed for direct reuse, refurbishment, reconfiguration, component recovery, material recovery and, only after that, recycling. We have already carried out pilot disassembly and reuse work on returned desk panels.

Our circularity work does not end with the product itself. As part of the programme connected with returned Acustio panels, we introduced a simple commitment: for every panel returned for processing, we plant a tree.

The first documented milestone connected 110 returned, refurbished and reintroduced acoustic panels with 110 planted trees. The programme later reached a total of 220 planted trees. The later total is not a one-to-one count of returned panels.

Tree planting complements our work on product reuse, refurbishment and material recovery. It is an additional commitment, not a substitute for keeping products and materials in use.

Desk adapters, mounting hardware, bases and castor sets can outlast the arrangement they were bought for. Where it is technically possible, they come back to us, get inspected, and go into another compatible product or another project.

The Acustio Way.

In our return and disassembly pilot, board was assessed for direct reuse in new panel production where it was technically suitable, felt for reuse in appropriate wall and ceiling applications where it was technically and aesthetically suitable, and metal mounting components for direct reuse. Not every returned component can be reused, and we do not pretend otherwise. What we can say is that recycling is the last question we ask, not the first.

Recycling is useful. Reuse is better when it is possible.

Where a life-cycle figure comes from a material declaration rather than from a complete Acustio panel, we say so next to the figure.

The Acustio Way.

Acustio was founded in 2018. Adaptability, rearrangement and compatibility were part of the product philosophy before there was a page like this one to describe them. It grew out of the way we design.

Acustio is founded. Jasper desk panels, Jasper free-standing solutions and Heaven Booth are among the early families. Adaptability is already part of how the products are drawn.

As the desk market grows, so does the adapter library. The panel side of the mounting stays consistent so the adapter can carry the difference.

Mounting approaches start to repeat across products, which makes bases and hardware useful in more than one place.

Acustio Lab is where we test what can work better next. Our work does not stop at existing materials and products. We explore new acoustic technologies, materials and production methods, with the aim of improving performance, durability, adaptability and material efficiency.

We believe acoustic products should remain valuable beyond their first layout, their first desk and, where possible, their first owner. That is what designing for the future means to us.

We aim to make environmental claims as specific and verifiable as possible. Where a statement relates to a material rather than a complete Acustio product, we say so. Where data is not yet available, we do not replace it with assumptions.
