About Acoustic

There is some extensive research showing how big of an impact acoustics have on every aspect of our lives.

Their role in a workplace is key. Acoustics influence our concentration, efficiency and overall comfort of working. Providing adequate acoustics in a room demands a comprehensive approach based on the selection of partitions with appropriate sound insulation and of sufficiently silent electric and electronic devices. Ensuring appropriate office acoustics has been obligatory in Poland since 2018. Let’s not forget that an acoustic ceiling very rarely meets the legal requirements and doesn’t provide high comfort of working whatsoever. Hence the need of placing external acoustic systems occurred, for example, free-standing room dividers.

Frequently asked questions

How well does Silentum absorb sound?

Silentum reaches alpha w = 1.00, sound absorption class A. Practical absorption coefficients at 125, 250, 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz: 0.35 / 0.95 / 1.00 / 1.00 / 1.00 / 1.00. Measured in a reverberation room to PN-EN ISO 354 and classified to EN ISO 11654. Test report: ProperSound, 19 August 2022.

Is Silentum soundproof?

No. Silentum absorbs sound and shortens reverberation time, which makes speech from neighbouring desks less intelligible and less distracting. It is not a soundproof partition and does not replace a wall. Acoustic panels reduce noise; they do not block it.

What is Silentum made from?

Silentum is made from acoustic felt, available in four categories: 100% polypropylene (580 g/m2, 3.8 mm), 100% wool (3 mm), 100% polyester (500 g/m2, 3 mm) and 100% wool (840 g/m2, 3 mm). Flammability is certified to EN 13501-1 and, depending on category, to ASTM E-84-18 Class A or UNE 23272 M1.

Where is Silentum typically used?

Silentum is used in open-plan offices, meeting rooms, receptions and focus areas, wherever speech and reverberation make it hard to concentrate.

Is office acoustics mandatory in Poland?

Yes. In Poland, providing adequate acoustics in office spaces has been obligatory since 2018. An acoustic ceiling alone rarely meets the requirements, which is why additional solutions such as free-standing dividers or ceiling islands are used.
